During the course of a school year more than 300 children and their families in the Eau Claire school district are homeless. Circumstances have only grown more dire in the wake of the pandemic and has allowed exploitation to thrive.
We invited Maria Guzman, Councilwoman for the city of Altoona to share how she went from volunteering wit this populace to finding herself on the other side, in a situation of homelessness.
Maria shares lessons she learned and encourages listeners to see the humanity in this population, offering a sobering reminder that in the blink of an eye “this could easily be you or a loved one.”
As a City Council Member, Maria now uses her story and passion for the marginalized in this area to advocate for mental health and affordable housing, something this area greatly needs.
