Christmas Brunch – A Survivor’s Dream Come True
Over a decade ago, I met the most kind and caring person that I had ever met. As she told me her story of being trafficked by her parents as she was a young child, it was almost impossible to imagine her life of trauma. The abuse she had endured as a child not only by her parents but by others who should have kept her safe as well. No human should ever have to go through this and certainly not a child.
Christmas was approaching and I wondered what I could give my new friend for Christmas. As I probed and listened, I heard her say that she had never been to a Christmas Brunch, or any Christmas meal for that matter. She had always dreamed of having a special time like that with friends.
My mind started spinning with ideas. Before I knew it, I had enlisted a dear friend of mine and we put a Christmas Brunch together. I drove through the snow and wind that day to pick up our guest. When we arrived, she took off her winter coat and put on her best dress. I still get teary when I think of sitting at the table with my new friend and my longtime friend. We laughed and cried together around good food and conversation.
I have had so many blessings and wonderful interactions working in the field of anti-trafficking – this is among the best.
